I started the six weeks by walking along the Rems River that flows through Waiblingen and the nature reserve there. By being in a place, wandering, and staying there, I make a connection. I took many photos and took the time to draw. I collected memories of the landscape and used them to create the work Tracing the Rems and It revealed itself. All the work is on paper and drawn with charcoal.

Tracing the Rems is a site-specific installation that represents my search for a connection with the Rems. Walking, pausing, and spending time are ways for me to engage with a landscape. Since childhood, wandering has been how I find a sense of belonging. I gather memories of the landscape and bring them together in my work. For this installation, I approached the Rems in the same spirit. A stop-motion animation of charcoal drawings is projected onto onto the river landscape drawing, depicting the rise and fall of the river. Together, the installation and projection evoke a memory or experience in which the visitor can lose themselves for a moment.

It revealed itself was created on paper given to me by Angela Glajcar and captures a tree along the Rems River that repeatedly drew my attention. I returned to it many times, fascinated by its resilience through cycles of flooding and drought. The work developed intuitively through tearing, layering, and assembling charcoal drawings on paper. The tree's roots extend beyond the paper over the floor, allowing the image to expand into the surrounding space. It reflects an ongoing observation of the river landscape and my attempt to understand its subtle transformations over time, while also expressing my concern for our changing waters.
